It's been quite some time since I last took the time to introduce myself, so if you're relatively new to our cozy little sewing community, let me extend a warm welcome and hello your way. And if you've been around for a while now, hello again—it’s always great to see familiar faces!
I'm Liesl, the creative mind behind Liesl + Co., Oliver + S, Straight Stitch Society, and Lisette for Butterick. I've also authored two sewing books and taught countless online sewing classes and video tutorials. My journey began at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, where I immersed myself in fashion design. Before diving into my own pattern-making business, I honed my skills working for major brands like Ralph Lauren, Esprit, Geoffrey Beene, and Tommy Hilfiger.
Our mission here at Liesl + Co. is simple yet meaningful: creating timeless, sustainable clothing designs with meticulous attention to detail. Each pattern comes with comprehensive sewing instructions that walk you through every step, along with plenty of ideas and inspiration for personalizing your projects and mastering fit adjustments. Our ultimate goal? To empower you to build a unique wardrobe filled with pieces tailored just the way you envision them—clothes that will stand the test of time and remain staples in your closet for years to come.
We officially launched back in 2008 in New York City, but by 2015 we had relocated to Madrid, Spain. Both cities hold a special place in my heart, and I love sharing glimpses of their vibrant cultures and styles. Traveling inspires me greatly, and I strive to infuse our designs with an international flair that seamlessly blends casual comfort with elegance for any occasion. The incredible community we've fostered over the years has been nothing short of inspiring—it’s truly a joy to connect with all of you, introduce you to fellow sewing enthusiasts, and exchange knowledge and creativity.
