I’ve always fantasized about putting together a small, versatile capsule wardrobe using some straightforward Liesl + Co. patterns, along with a few more intricate designs. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to play around with some exciting fabric choices and share my vision with all of you.

Clockwise from the top left:
Stripes have always been my go-to, and they blend beautifully with the Maritime Knit Top pattern. A few years back, I crafted a striped version, but unfortunately, I accidentally damaged it with spray foam while trying to seal gaps in my garage. For this project, I’m eyeing an orange and white striped St. James knit from Mood Fabrics. It feels like this top would pair perfectly with jeans or even a denim or utility canvas skirt.
There’s another piece I’ve been pining over for years—a denim Extra-Sharp Pencil Skirt. Honestly, I can’t believe I haven’t attempted it yet. Maybe I should commit to making one before 2022 ends and let you all keep me on track. I’m thinking of using a stretch denim similar to this one. Although the pattern doesn’t specifically require stretchy fabrics, I personally prefer the comfort of a slightly elastic pencil skirt—it’s kinder to my tummy too.
Oh, did I mention how much I adore stripes? This cotton/polyester French terry fabric would be ideal for a cozy Bento Tee. I’d probably extend its length into a tunic-style top and wear it casually with skinny jeans or leggings.
Lastly, there’s this rayon twill fabric that caught my attention. Its rich color and subtle striping are simply irresistible. Rayon twill has a weightier feel than challis but retains that graceful drape. I imagine it would create a stunning Afternoon Tea Blouse that could match well with either the denim pencil skirt or jeans and ankle boots. As I put this collection together, it hit me that lengthening this blouse could transform it into a playful swingy dress. Does anyone out there have experience doing that? In this material, it would undoubtedly make a striking holiday party outfit for warmer climates.
Of course, I have plenty of other ideas swirling around in my mind, but those will have to wait until the next set of patterns drops—can’t wait to unveil them!
In the meantime, what about you? Have you sketched out any seasonal sewing projects? Let’s hear about your plans!
