Jiangxi is abundant in bamboo and rattan resources, and in recent years, the province has actively seized the opportunities brought by forestry rights reform and industrial upgrading. By investing in the bamboo and rattan industry, promoting exports, and transforming natural resources into competitive advantages, Jiangxi has seen a significant revival in this sector. The industry has not only gained momentum but also become a key driver of local economic development.
The provincial government has prioritized the bamboo and rattan industry as a core component of county-level economic growth. Through active promotion and investment attraction, the sector has attracted numerous domestic and foreign investors. Since 2000, 101 investors have entered the market, with 41 major projects receiving over 50 million yuan in funding from outside the province. In total, these projects have attracted 4.656 billion yuan in investment, with 3.306 billion yuan actually realized on the ground.
Several large-scale projects have emerged, showcasing the industry's potential. For instance, Zhejiang Anji Yafeng Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. invested 420 million yuan in Wanjia County to develop bamboo products. Meanwhile, Fujian-based entrepreneur Zhang Hefeng poured 320 million yuan into a bamboo project in Yongfeng County. In Yifeng County, Jiangxi Kangdian Long Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. partnered with German companies SunnyBase and Elephant Company to invest 318 million yuan in a bamboo processing project.
In terms of exports, Jiangxi’s bamboo and rattan products have experienced remarkable growth. During the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, the value of exports surged from just $72,100 in 2005 to $42.94 million in 2009, reflecting an average annual increase of 80.1%. Since 2006, the total export volume has reached $147 million, demonstrating the strong international demand for Jiangxi’s high-quality bamboo and rattan goods.
With continued investment, innovation, and global outreach, the bamboo and rattan industry in Jiangxi is well-positioned to maintain its upward trajectory and play an even greater role in the province’s economy.
