Jiangxi is rich in bamboo and rattan resources, offering a strong foundation for the development of related industries. In recent years, the province has seized key opportunities arising from forestry rights reform and supportive policies, actively promoting investment in the bamboo and rattan sector. This has led to significant progress in expanding the export of bamboo and rattan products, transforming natural resources into economic advantages. As a result, the industry has experienced a new wave of growth and innovation.
The bamboo and rattan industry has become a priority for county-level economic development in Jiangxi. The local business departments have been working hard to attract investments and promote industrial growth. Since 2000, the province has successfully attracted 101 domestic and foreign investors to set up or expand operations in the bamboo and rattan sector. Among these, 41 projects with investments exceeding 50 million yuan came from outside the province. The total investment reached 4.656 billion yuan, with actual capital injected amounting to 3.306 billion yuan.
Several large-scale projects have emerged as key drivers of this growth. For example, Zhejiang Anji Yafeng Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. invested 420 million yuan in Wanjia County to develop bamboo product manufacturing. Meanwhile, Fujian-based entrepreneur Zhang Hefeng invested 320 million yuan in Yongfeng County. In Yifeng County, Jiangxi Kangdian Long Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. partnered with German companies SunnyBase and Elephant Company to invest 318 million yuan in a bamboo processing project.
In terms of exports, Jiangxi’s bamboo and rattan products have seen consistent and rapid growth. During the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, the value of exports increased dramatically, starting from just 72,100 U.S. dollars in 2005 and reaching 42.94 million U.S. dollars by 2009—an average annual growth rate of 80.1%. Since 2006, the total export value has exceeded 147 million U.S. dollars, reflecting the industry's strong market demand and competitive edge.
