Trading between Taiwanese Brazilian Synthetic Silk Fiber and Cotton
Business News Agency, September 20: In 2009, the total trade volume between Taiwan and Brazil reached a significant figure of $2.7 billion. Despite the global economic slowdown in the previous year, which pushed Brazil into a recession, Taiwan's exports to Pakistan saw a temporary decline. However, the Brazilian government took proactive measures by implementing expansionary monetary policies and introducing tax reductions and incentives for key sectors such as automobiles and home appliances. These efforts helped stimulate economic recovery in mid-2009.
By the third quarter of 2009, Taiwan’s exports to Brazil began to show signs of recovery. From January to August this year alone, the export value from Taiwan to Brazil amounted to $1.225 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of $842.4 million—an impressive rise of 51.6%.
Taiwan’s major exports to Brazil include a wide range of products such as asphalt-based oils, integrated circuits, polyacetals, audio and visual signal devices, tapes, synthetic fiber yarns, stainless steel flat-rolled products, printed circuit boards, steel screws, bolts, nuts, metal processing machines, insecticides, rat control agents, bacterial agents, wired and wireless communication equipment, rubber pneumatic tires, and various plastic self-adhesive products like boards, sheets, films, tapes, and rolls.
On the import side, Taiwan mainly brings in raw materials from Brazil that complement its industrial needs. These include iron ore, refined sand, semi-finished non-alloy steel products, pig iron, cast iron, granite, basalt, and other construction materials. Additionally, agricultural products such as jade, cotton, sugarcane, beet sugar, coffee, yeast, and more are also important imports from Brazil.
The strong trade relationship between Taiwan and Brazil continues to evolve, with both sides benefiting from their complementary economies and growing market opportunities.
