As one of China's key industries, the textile and garment sector plays a vital role in the country's foreign trade. With its significant contribution to export volumes, it has always held a unique position. However, the global financial crisis of 2008 hit the industry hard, forcing many textile and garment companies to shut down or scale back operations. In response, experts like Mei Xinyu, a researcher from the Ministry of Commerce, emphasized that "China's textile industry must not only expand domestic demand but also focus on producing high-quality products." To support the struggling sector, the government introduced a series of policies aimed at boosting domestic consumption, including initiatives to support garment and textile enterprises.
At a recent event, Ou Yiyong, deputy director of the Industrial Department of Guangdong Provincial Economic and Trade Commission, provided an in-depth overview of these new state policies. As international fashion trends continue to evolve and Chinese consumers become more conscious about their appearance, many export-oriented garment manufacturers have begun shifting their focus toward the domestic market. This shift has led to increased efforts in brand building, resulting in the emergence of several high-quality men’s fashion brands that are now setting trends in what was once a dull and underdeveloped market.
According to the meeting, in 2009, men’s fashion is expected to be more diverse than in 2008, with colorful clothing gaining popularity. During the event, several clothing companies showcased their latest collections in a special fashion show. Among them, Haoheng Garments Co., Ltd. from Humen stood out with its presentation of the 2009 GI fashion men's collection. The event, held on December 12, 2008, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, was part of a domestic market development and investment conference. It attracted over 100 on-site sign-ups, and with follow-up summer orders, the total order volume for 2008 reached 400% of expectations. This success highlights the growing potential of the domestic market for Chinese textile and garment companies.
