Apparel industry welcomed the "domestic demand era" Men's market into growth

As one of the key industries in China, the textile and garment sector plays a vital role in the country's foreign trade. With its massive export volume, it has long been an essential pillar of economic growth. However, the global financial crisis of 2008 hit the industry hard, leading to the closure of many textile and garment enterprises. In response, experts and officials have emphasized the need for the industry to focus on both expanding domestic demand and improving product quality. Mei Xinyu, a researcher from the Ministry of Commerce, pointed out that "China’s textile industry must not only boost domestic consumption but also enhance the quality of its products." To support this transition, the government has introduced several policies aimed at helping textile and garment companies. One of these is the initiative to "support garment and textile enterprises," which is part of a broader strategy to stimulate domestic demand. At a recent event, Ou Yiyong, deputy director of the Industrial Department of the Guangdong Provincial Economic and Trade Commission, provided detailed insights into the new state policies supporting the textile industry. With the influence of international fashion trends and growing consumer demand for stylish clothing, some Chinese garment manufacturers—once focused solely on exports—have started shifting their attention to the domestic market. These companies are now investing heavily in branding, aiming to capture a larger share of the male apparel market, which was previously seen as dull and unexciting. According to the meeting, in 2009, men’s fashion will become more diverse than in 2008, with colorful and trendy styles gaining popularity. Several companies showcased their latest collections during the event, including Haoheng Garments Co., Ltd. from Humen, which presented its 2009 GI fashion line. Their presentation was particularly impressive, drawing significant attention from attendees. Notably, on December 12, 2008, Haoheng held a fashion show in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, during a domestic market development and investment conference. The event saw over 100 on-site orders, and with follow-up summer orders, the company reported a staggering 400% increase in business compared to the previous year. This success highlights the potential of the domestic market and signals a positive shift in the industry's direction.
